In the quest for alpha, investors have to know where to look.
Consider that, over a trillion dollars is spent by chief technology officers all over the world. Historically, that spend largely centered on infrastructure and software to help companies, governments, municipalities, etc. run their institution with better efficiency.
In recent years however, it has become increasingly challenging for these same hardware and software providers to utilize the historical pricing model, because Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS), a form of cloud computing, has disrupted the marketplace. Cloud hosting, in its simplest form, offers both storage and computing advantages at substantial discounts to the incumbents' value proposition.
