10 Categories of Breadcrumbs Overview
Learn how to recognize and act on key breadcrumbs to improve your listening skills.
Breadcrumbs. It's the word, term, phrase that the person we're listening to they most want us to hear. We know they come in 10 categories. We're going to go through all of those 10 categories. When we think about breadcrumbs, remember, it's a test. On average, people only listen at 25%. In order to preserve EQ, when somebody engages in a conversation, they want to figure out, "Hey, are you making this about yourself, dragging them to your stage, or you actually seeking to get on my stage?" They do that by dropping these breadcrumbs.
When we go through all these categories, when we visualize what these breadcrumbs sound like and how we're going to respond to them, remember, we must pass the breadcrumb test. When we hear a breadcrumb, we have one or two choices. We can make it about ourselves, we can give a solution, we can make our lead character in our movie look great, or we can discover, to demonstrate, "I'm trying to get on your stage." Now we're going to break down all 10 categories of breadcrumbs.
