Category 1 Distractions: Immediate Non-Biased
Learn what category one distractions are and how to eliminate them.
Category one listening distraction, immediate, non-biased distractions. Non-biased, it doesn't have anything to do with the person that you're listening to. You know what the benefit of that is? We can address category one distractions regardless of who we're talking to. The background noise in a meeting room, having a TV on when we're talking to somebody on the computer screen. Even if that TV's on mute, it still lowers our listening. The comfort of our clothes, the temperature of the room. The biggest mistake that we get hit with category one listening distraction, we're having virtual meetings. People say, "Oh, it's really hard to connect with somebody on a Zoom call." It's actually not. The problem we make is we believe it's okay to have the TV on, the computer up, our cell phone within eyesight as long as it's not seen on the screen.
But here's what I need you to understand. People know when we're distracted and when a category one within our immediate area is taking our attention, in their mind, they're going, "Wait, isn't this a partnership? Wait, I was hoping you were going to come get on my stage." You're allowing these category ones to disconnect us. It can really damage the trust.
