Category 1: Subjective Statement Breadcrumb

Learn how you can use subjective statements from clients and prospects to understand their perspective.

Category one, breadcrumbs, subjective statements. What's a subjective statement? I had a long weekend. It's any word, term or phrase in which we do not have the right or the ability to translate for another person. Easy way to think of these breadcrumbs. A lot of people just call them adjectives. It's a tricky situation. I've got a weird relationship with this organization. What's the problem? When we as professionals, as problem solvers, we hear these category one breadcrumbs, these subjective statements. We think, "Oh yeah, I know what weird means. I've seen that a hundred times. Let me give you the solution," when actually the person, when they drop a category one subjective statement breadcrumb, they simply want us to discover. When you say weird, what do you mean by weird? Tricky. We are seeking to understand.

Now, here's the thing about category ones. It's the breadcrumb category that we're most going to recognize. Category one, these adjectives, they'll fall into all the other categories. Therefore, when we start off breadcrumbs, I need us to think, listen to the adjective, listen to that subjective statement. As we go through category two through 10, we're going to see category ones filtered through all of them. Category one, it's the foundation of our breadcrumbs.
