Should I Maintain Eye Contact?

Eye contact demonstrates your interest. Explore tactics for maintaining eye contact.

It's always important that we demonstrate that we're listening with empathy. When people ask, What about eye contact, that's important. Of course it's important. You might notice some people accuse me this like Eric, you kind of stare-y. You make us a little bit nervous.

Plus, you're an interrogator. But I need us to understand, when we're communicating with somebody, we need to maintain great eye contact, most importantly when they're speaking. But we also have to be natural. I can't allow us to always focus on staring into their eyes. Why? Because when we hear something, we want to come up with the great discovery question we want to get on their stage -

Our minds have got to think. Our brain will force our eyes to go back and forth. So it's okay to kind of think around, look around. But then when we're going to deliver that message, I need us to have that good eye contact. Plus, it's really going to help us keep these other category one, those immediate, non-biased distractions away.  When I'm most stare-y, it’s when it's kind of a loud room, a lot of background noise, because it allows us to show them: Right now I'm most focused on you.
