2026 MFS DC Plan Sponsor Survey

Building Towards Better Outcomes. In this video, Jeri Savage highlights three key themes from the MFS' 2026 MFS DC Plan Sponsor Survey.

Hi, I’m Jeri Savage, Lead Retirement Strategist at MFS.

At a time when plan sponsors are being asked to do more than ever to help improve retirement outcomes, we’re excited to share the results of our third annual DC Plan Sponsor Survey: Building Better Outcomes.

This survey is one of three annual DC studies we conduct to capture perspectives across the full defined contribution ecosystem — the participant, the advisor, and the plan sponsor.

Now in its third year, our Plan Sponsor Survey reflects insights from US defined contribution plans of all sizes, representing more than $400 billion in retirement assets and nearly one million participants.

This year’s findings center on three key themes.

First, plan sponsor confidence. Confidence is improving, but the results show there’s still work to be done to help participants feel truly prepared for retirement.

Second, innovation. Sponsors recognize the potential role of new investment options, yet we continue to see a disconnect between the discussion of private assets and actual interest in adopting them in DC plans.

And third, the DC investment menu. Target date funds continue to dominate, reinforcing their central role in plan design and long‑term retirement outcomes.
