Stage Mistakes #2: How Do I Stay On Their Stage?

Explore how you can stay on a client's stage by continually seeking to understand their perspective.

As we understand the two stages and we move in to removing these distractions, we have to realize there's always going to be something on our front of mind. What must it be? We have to realize every time that we engage in a conversation, the person that we're communicating with, they're going to test us. They want to know, "Hey, are you back on your stage," because we left each other's presence and we came together. And so what stays on our front of mind? Every time we engage in a conversation, we should have a goal. We have an agenda, of course we do. What is it? To get on their stage. What does that mean? We have to discover. Discover what? What it means to be them right now. As we move into these distractions and how we remove those, we're going to find we prioritize things in our mind.

So when we want to say, "Well, how do I put a priority over our goals, agendas, and objectives?" What if every time we communicate with somebody, all we're thinking to ourselves is, "How do I get on their stage? Because I'm know I'm not there when we start." They're going to drop the breadcrumbs. They're going to lead us there. That should be our goal, our agenda, our objective at the beginning of every single conversation.
