Robert J. Manning is executive chairman of MFS Investment Management® (MFS®) and a trustee of both the MFS Funds Board and the MFS Meridian® Funds Board. He works closely with the MFS Management Committee, the firm's clients and the board of directors at MFS' parent company, Sun Life.
Rob was named executive chairman in January 2017. He was named CEO in 2004, chairman in 2010 and co-CEO in 2015. He held the title of president and chief investment officer from 2004 to 2009. Prior to that, he led MFS' Fixed Income Division from 2001 to 2004. From 1992 to 2001, he held several senior fixed income positions, including chief strategist, director of research and portfolio manager. He joined MFS in 1984 as a research analyst in the High Yield Bond Group.
Rob received a Master of Science degree in finance from Boston College (1987) and a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Massachusetts -- Lowell (1984).
Rob is a member of the Investment Company Institute's board of governors. He was named chairman of the board of trustees at the University of Massachusetts in December 2016 for the second time, having previously served in this role from 2007 to 2010. He also serves on the university's Foundation Investment Committee. He received a Doctor of Humane Letters degree in May 2011 from the University of Massachusetts -- Lowell, where he has endowed the Manning School of Business.
