The Role of Social Security

Key Insight

41% of participants expect to receive less than 25% of their income in retirement from Social Security. However, retirees note the largest proportion of their monthly income, about 45%, comes from Social Security, This discrepancy highlights a potential gap in participant expectations versus actual retirement income sources, underscoring the importance of comprehensive retirement planning.

 


 

Retirement Portfolio Priorities

Key Insight

Both pre-retirees and retirees tell us that predictable payments are their top retirement portfolio priority, followed by flexibility for withdrawals. Retirement income solutions, like guaranteed income through an annuity and insurance protection, are not major priorities for either participants or retirees.
